An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.
They are portable and simple to use, even for those who haven’t done first aid training. AED’s can analyse the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
Shockingly, without defibrillation, for every minute that passes, the chance of survival for someone who has experienced cardiac arrest reduces by 10%.
